Indonesian

Hai. Selamat datang di halaman (LOTE) Bahasa Indonesia.
Saya Ibu Sue, ibu guru bahasa Indonesia di Sekolah Dasar Gosnells.

Hi. Welcome to the LOTE (Languages other than English) page.
Our specialist LOTE Indonesian program gives students an introduction to the language and culture of Indonesia, through the main forms of speaking + listening, reading, writing and responding.

Years 4, 5 and 6 each participate in an hour lesson each week.
Classroom lessons include oral language practice, songs, quizzes, online activities, role play, cultural art, incursions and reading and writing short sentences.

Why study Indonesian?

Indonesian has been taught in Australian schools since the 1960s and now hundreds of schools across Australia teach the language of our nearest neighbour and popular travel destination. Their national language is Bahasa Indonesia. It is very similar to Bahasa Malaysia, the national language of Malaysia. The Indonesian-Malay language is the ninth most spoken language in the world.

Learning the Indonesian language has many benefits. Students will be able to:

  • gain opportunities in business, government, education and tourism
  • speak directly to 210 million people throughout our region in Indonesia and Malaysia
  • benefit from a deeper understanding of their first language plus an increase in memory and learning ability in other areas
