PPs big, bad investigation!

As part of our studies in materials and their properties, rooms 18 & 19 have been investigating the “truth” presented to us in the story The Three Little Pigs. As scientists, we are always wanting to discover the truth for ourselves, and to that end we made a house of straw, a house of sticks and a house of bricks. Using a hair-dryer as the Big, Bad Wolf, students huffed and puffed and tried to blow the houses down…with surprising results!

We discovered that although a house built of straw could not withstand a strong wind, that a house of sticks was quite equal to the task. The house of bricks, as predicted, stood firm with no damage sustained.

We had to adjust our thinking as the evidence went against what the fairy tale told us, and what we ourselves thought would happen.
